Switchblade Serenade/Rumble CLub/Akillis Green @ Canal Street Tavern 10.4.07

Even on the eve of such a monumental local event, Canal Street Tavern drew a sizable crowd out to enjoy a night full of raw rock n' roll goodness....

...Akillis Green opened the night with their purist rockabilly. Drinkin' and cussin' all through a set riddled throughout with David Allen Coe tunes, these boys got everyone good and rowdy to start the evening...

...up from Covington, KY, Rumble Club hit the stage with their greaser looks and big rockabilly sound. Despite their bass player pulling out all the stops as he carried his upright out onto tables, stood on the bass itself, and generally just manhandled the beast of an instrument, Rumble Club found it difficult to win over the Canal Street Audience this night...

...significantly more successful at engaging the audience was local faves, Switchblade Serenade. Having seen their debut several months ago, I was somewhat skeptical as to how this would all go down. I am pleased to say that after a few road jaunts and some time spent in the studio recently, Switchblade Serenade has emerged as a serious garage juggernaut. Dishing out searing psychedelia just as easily as primal garage, you're going to want to keep an eye on this one...
