RIP Touch and Go Records?
...word spread this morning that venerable indie label Touch and Go Records would, after 25 years, announce that they would be forever closing up shop today. An announcement this afternoon from label head Corey Rusk states that the label will merely be shedding the numerous other indie labels it currently distributes (Merge, Kill Rock Stars, Suicide Squeeze) and return to merely putting out its own roster. i see this having a huge domino effect on the industry, mainly those that T&G did P+D for. i could also see many labels freaking out, if corey can't do it these days, no one can.
As someone who's been championing physical media over mp3s for years now, this news feels like a big blow.
Perhaps it's not. Only time will tell for sure.
Still, it's certainly a sad day for music.
Yeah, this is really important.
