L'80s Night Relocates to Therapy Cafe

...after spending three years at Pearl Niteclub, one of Dayton's favorite weeklies, L'80s Night, will move into its new home at Therapy Cafe, 452 E. Third St., starting tomorrow, April 7. This will be the third location for the event, as its roots date all the way back to the now-defunct Elbos. No need to worry, however. You'll still be in the able hands of DJs Jay, Heather, and Bruce who will continue to bring you plenty of requests from their expansive collection and all the regulars will be on hand. Speaking of, here's one of our favorites that we always seem to hear when we head out to L'80s Night...

Nightbeast - Tonight @ Pearl/L'Eighties Night

...in no finer a setting than the middle of L'Eighties Night, the inimitable Nightbeast will treat his hometown to an uber-rare live performance as a preview of his upcoming debut, Inside Jokes For Outside Folks tonight at Pearl. The 'Beast hits the stage at midnight, so we'll see there....

Grizzzzy Bear/Toads and Mice @ Pearl 2.12.08

...despite the unsavory weather, and despite the inability of the club to open its doors on time, for everyone who made the trip out to Pearl last evening, we were treated to incredibly powerful sets by two of Dayton's finest young bands...

...opening the evening (albeit well past schedule), Toads and Mice launched into their set with steely precision tempered with earnest and unbridled passion. Yet again, Toads and Mice proved to us why they are truly one of the most captivating bands in Dayton at the moment. With unfailing accuracy, Toads and Mice navigated their way through gentle passages, grinding guitar work, and bouncy rhythms, engaging the audience at every turn...



...after The Buddha Den awarded our winners from our CD giveaway yesterday, Grizzzzy Bear veered their ship into a grueling metal introduction that left us somewhat baffled. Throughout their set on this evening, the band continued to intimate at a more muscular approach to the material, all but abandoning much of the pop sensibilities that initially endeared us to their debut disc. In some cases, the heavier sound solidified the material. However, in some of the extended interludes, we caught several audience members losing interest. Perhaps as the band continues to refine their sound with the new lineup (yes, it appears as if they have a full-time keyboardists once again) the promise we hear on their album may finally come to fruition in the live setting. Regardless, the capacity crowd loved Grizzzzy Bear and throughout the set pressed closer and closer to the band, hoping to catch a glimpse....



....as the bands gave way to L'Eighties Night's 2 Year Anniversary Party, DJs Jay and Heather took the tables and threw out the 80s jams and kept the people dancing...

...we have a very special announcement for you today, kids! The Buddha Den is making its first foray into live shows, joining forces with the good kids at L'Eighties Night to help celebrate their Two-Year Anniversary Show at Pearl on Tuesday, February 12. Yes, we know that's a couple of weeks from now. We're telling you now so that you can plan ahead. It's because we care...

...the L'Eighties Night folks have allowed us to put our definitive stamp on the event by bringing along two of our local favorites to open the evening: Toads and Mice and Grizzzzy Bear, both from local label Squids Eye Records. We really couldn't be more excited....

....we're telling you all know so that you can arrange your life accordingly. In order that you can properly do so, please keep the following information in mind:

Admission is $0.00

Bands begin PROMPTLY at 9:30 (Toads & Mice at 9:30; Grizzzzy Bear at 10:30. All bands will be done by 11:00 for those of you want an early show on a weeknight. Yep, we're looking out for you too!)
