The Dirty Walk

...we're gonna hop in the time machine for a hot minute on the instigation from our friends over at Fictionband. If you were in Dayton in the early years of this nascent century, odds are you remember a little outfit called The Dirty Walk. Featuring Jeremy Fredricks (Cigarhead/Let's Crash/Human Reunion) on bass/vocals, Tyler Trent (Brainiac) on drums, and Darryl Robbins (The Keynote Speaker/Montgomery Greene) on guitar/vocals, this trio was some serious mess. Although short-lived, this trio, and later a reformatted quartet, harnessed that quintessential Dayton thread and made it all their own. You can grab the whole 5-song demo over at Fictionband for FREE which is the only document of the band...

With Vol. 1 clocking in at just over 4 minutes, these are incredibly short but powerful blasts of lo-fi goodness. Grab it now and stay tuned...

Fictionband Releases New Joe Anderl EP

...after touring extensively throughout the early months of 2008, Joe Anderl (aka The 1984 NFL Draft) retreated into silence for the summer. Although seemingly silent, Anderl, along with Fictionband, were hard at work putting together a collection of tracks which has been released as, fittingly, The Fictionband Sessions EP. Although some of the more ambient elements from his previous I Love Joe Anderl album are absent, his trademark intimacy and bare-bones approach continue to mark his work. Oh, did we mention that the EP is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD that you can grab RIGHT HERE. Do it...

More chunkies for mass consumption

...while their release schedule may be erratic at best, it can hardly be denied that the kids over at Fictionband are doing great work unearthing some of the most interesting releases from Dayton's sordid past and present. This time around, Fictionband offers up an abridged version of local home recording aficionados Ohio Briars 5-disc opus Punch the Red, which includeds ex-GBVer Dan Toohey. As if that weren't enough to digest, also on yr plate is the sole release from The Igniters, Igniting I (circa 2000). Grab these two platters as FREE DOWNLOADS HERE.

More Fictionband Chunkies...

...it would appear as if the kids at Fictionband are hellbent on becoming a clearing house for Dayton's musical past. We aren't complaining. Today they offered up the final release from Montgomery Greene, the Ready By the Next Symbol EP. While the band was around for about 7 years, this final release from 2004 was arguably their best. Go grab the FREE DOWNLOAD HERE and see for yourself...

Cigarhead Gets Chunked

...while we try to look ever-forward here at The Buddha Den, every so often we are given pause and take time to reflect on Dayton's rich musical legacy. More often than not, it's the fault of the kids over at Fictionband. Today they announced the fifth installment of their vault-mining Cut Little Chunkies series, offering up the Cigarhead album (put out on cassette no less!) by 12 x 12 Records. If you were unfortunate enough to miss this the first time around, consider Fictionband your guardian angel and grab this for FREE RIGHT HERE...

The Motel Beds Get Chunkied

...in their ongoing efforts to remind everyone that the past is not really dead, Fictionband has provided us all with another fine sampling of Dayton bands gone by with their ongoing Cute Little Chunkies series. Well, kinda. This time around we've got a heaping helping from The Motel Beds, who we also featured on The Buddha Den Spring Sampler. Fictionband officials claim that The Motel Beds stand as one of the best Dayton bands of all time. We'll let you judge for yourself, but you have an abundance of evidence that you can grab for FREE RIGHT HERE. There's a pretty strong case, what with PJ Paslosky's impeccable pop hooks and Tommy Copper (currently serving time in Captain of Industry) as the perfect foil on guitar. Sure, they're all but defunct now, but every so often The Motel Beds make an appearance in Dayton. If you hear about it, do yourself a favor and be there. For now, just grab this and thank Fictionband...

take it or leave it....

...as if local labels haven't done enough lately to help the Dayton music scene, both Fictionband and Squids Eye Records have offered up new samplings from the Gem City. While combing through the past, Fictionband has come up with random offerings from Ohio Casket and Cigarhead. For those of you who missed them the first time, take a listen and dig the history. Meanwhile, Squids Eye Records has made a new track available from the long-defunct Jet Kid Committee in advance of the promise of a 4-song EP from the outfit later this fall. Why? Well, keep in mind that Jet Kid Committee was the breeding ground for such current Dayton fixtures as Grizzzzy Bear and Yakuza Heart Attack, as well as the massively underrated Scott Deadalus. Just have a listen....

Tiny Saddles out on Fictionband

...the good folks over at Fictionband have done it again, bringing forth the work of those who toil in obscure home studios. This time around we have Tiny Saddles, the fertile brainchild of Nick Morano, who served time as drummer in Abracadaver! and Ohio Casket. With this particular project, Morano dives into electronic flavors, spicing them up with random lo-fi stabbings. As always, you download the tracks for FREE courtesy of your friends at Fictionband...

Titbag "Full Belly, Empty Balls"

...the incessantly prodigious Fictionband has issued forth another salvo, kids. This time, enter the Tard metal treats of the debut by Titbag, Full Belly, Empty Balls. As the band's name clearly suggests, this is by no means for the lighthearted or the humorless. All taken in stride, however, Titbag delivers some grinding metal stripped to its most steely core. Apparently, Fictionband has endured legal proceedings and endless negotiations to acquire the rights to issue this lost classic from the 70s "Kings of Tard Metal". Let's be clear: You will find no spandex. You will find speed. You will find virtuostic guitar work. You will find epic metal sething into your veins. You will want find your head whipping to and 'fro. As always, the kids at Fictionband serve this up to you on a steaming hot platter as a completely FREE DOWNLOAD. Just go...

Featuring the songwriting talents of ex-patriate Steven Gullett, the disc veers between raunchy foot-stompers, stripped-down rockers, and the heart-wrenching finale, "Angels Are Never Enough". You need this one.
